One of Korean beauty’s most talked-about ingredients is about to become considerably more accessible. Launching in September, the newly reformulated L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Filler Hyaluronic PDRN+ Serum combines three forms of hyaluronic acid with a biotechnology-produced vegan PDRN+ complex to target dehydration, dullness, loss of firmness and visible lines.
Inspired by two of the biggest treatments within modern aesthetics—dermal filler and injectable skin boosters—the topical serum has been designed to leave skin looking plumper, smoother and more luminous, without the needles.
What Is PDRN?
PDRN, or polydeoxyribonucleotide, is a DNA-derived ingredient that has become increasingly sought-after through Korean skincare and aesthetic clinics.
Traditionally sourced from purified fragments of salmon DNA, PDRN has been explored within regenerative medicine and professional treatments for its relationship with tissue repair, fibroblast activity and collagen synthesis. This has helped inspire a new generation of topical PDRN skincare created to improve the appearance of skin quality, elasticity and radiance.
However, injectable and topical PDRN should not be viewed as interchangeable. Much of the ingredient’s established research relates to its professional or medical use, making molecular size, stability and delivery especially important when it is incorporated into cosmetic skincare.
This is where L’Oréal Paris’s new formula becomes particularly interesting.
For the first time, the brand has developed an exclusive vegan PDRN+ complex, combining PDRN with PRN, or polyribonucleotide. Instead of being derived from salmon, the complex is produced through biotechnology and bio-fermentation.
L’Oréal Paris says its PDRN+ is both smaller in molecular weight and physical size than traditional salmon-derived PDRN. At approximately 3,000 times smaller than a pore, it has been designed for optimal absorption into the skin’s surface.
A Six Per Cent Moisture-Plumping Complex
At the heart of the serum is a six per cent moisture-plumping complex combining three forms of hyaluronic acid with vegan PDRN+ and glycerin.
The formula includes Macro Hyaluronic Acid, which remains on the skin’s surface to hydrate, soften and smooth the appearance of texture. Micro Hyaluronic Acid has a smaller molecular weight and is designed to reach the upper layers of the epidermis, helping to plump the appearance of the skin.
The third form, Micro-Epidermic Hyaluronic Acid, features a methylated structure created to improve its penetration and resistance to degradation, allowing for longer-lasting hydration.
Hyaluronic acid is naturally present within the skin and has an exceptional affinity for water. By combining three different forms, the serum approaches hydration at multiple levels of the skin’s surface rather than relying on one molecule alone.
The supporting formula also contains glycerin, which helps attract and retain moisture, and Vitamin Cg, a stable vitamin C derivative included to support radiance. Rye seed extract is also present as a smoothing, anti-wrinkle active.
Despite the number of actives, L’Oréal Paris describes the texture as lightweight, fast-absorbing, non-greasy and non-sticky. The formula has been dermatologically tested and is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.
What Results Does L’Oréal Paris Claim?
Immediately after application, L’Oréal Paris says skin feels more hydrated and plumped, with a noticeably dewier appearance.
After one week, skin is said to feel more elastic and tightened, as though lifted. Signs of fatigue appear reduced, while the complexion looks more rested and repaired.
With continued use, the brand reports that skin feels regenerated and renewed after one month.
The most significant results were recorded after six weeks. In a clinical study involving 53 women, assessed through expert visual grading, L’Oréal Paris reported an average 47% reduction in the appearance of wrinkles and a 60% reduction in the appearance of fine lines. As always, individual results will vary.
It is important to remember that this remains a topical cosmetic product and its results are not equivalent to an injectable procedure. However, for anyone intrigued by the PDRN movement but unwilling—or not yet ready—to explore professional treatments, it offers a far more accessible introduction to the ingredient.
How to Use the L’Oréal Paris PDRN Serum
The serum has been designed for daily use both morning and evening.
After cleansing, apply three to four drops across the face and neck before gently pressing and smoothing the formula outwards and upwards. Allow between 30 and 60 seconds for it to absorb before following with moisturiser.
During the morning, the routine should always be completed with a broad-spectrum SPF of at least 30.
The bottle also introduces a new syringe-inspired dropper created to dispense a precise amount of serum while keeping application easy and hygienic—a subtle nod to the aesthetic treatments that inspired the formula.
