More products, more ingredients, more advice. CeraVe’s latest research makes a case for keeping skincare simple, starting with the skin barrier.
When did looking after our skin become quite so much homework? Between elaborate routines and an endless stream of ingredient advice, even a bathroom shelf can start to feel overwhelming.

Enjoying skincare is one thing. Feeling able to keep up with it every morning and evening is another. In new research commissioned by CeraVe, 55% of adults surveyed said skincare must be simple or they will not follow the routine. It is an understandable sentiment: a routine needs to fit into real life.
To explore the issue, CeraVe took the conversation outdoors. During the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Congress in Vienna, the brand brought dermatology experts into the Viennese hills for a guided walk and fireside discussion about our skin, our surroundings and the value of understanding the basics.

From changing weather to heat, pollution and air conditioning, our skin encounters different conditions throughout the day. CeraVe’s survey of 6,000 adults across the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain explored how people feel about those pressures.
The findings were revealing. 81% recognised the importance of protecting skin beyond UV exposure, while just 22% used products specifically intended to support the skin barrier.
For CeraVe, that is an opportunity to make the science easier to understand. The skin barrier helps retain moisture, and ceramides are part of that structure. Developed with dermatologists, CeraVe’s formulas contain three essential, skin-identical ceramides to help restore and maintain it.

“As the conversation around skin becomes increasingly complex, we want to give people something simple: credible science, effective skincare and the confidence to make informed choices for their skin,” says Gene Colon, Global Senior Vice President of Medical Relations and Communications, CeraVe.
There is something appealing about that approach. Understanding what each product does gives a routine purpose and makes it easier to stick with. Before finding room for another bottle, perhaps the most useful step is getting to know the essentials.
