Tucked away on the northern edge of Venice, The Grand hotel Dei Dogi is a luxury 72 room converted palazzo. The building was originally constructed in the 16th century and has lived so many lives. It has been home to the Embassy of France, a monastery and a convent.
In the 18th century the noble Patarol family planted a large private garden which over time has expanded to become one of the largest private green areas in Venice. It i a rare gem, spanning 200 square metres and is a visual masterpiece.
As you walk thought the entrance of the stunning hotel, you are welcomed by a beautiful large lobby. The walls are decorated with traditional Venician art and descending from the ceiling, is a glittering vintage Murano chandelier.
From the moment you enter The Grand Hotel Dei Dogi, everything is seamless. The porters are on hand at every door, don’t be surprised if you don’t open a door for your entire stay.
Upon arrival, one of the porters lead us to the The Grand Hotel Dei Dogi’s crown jewel, the spectacular gardens. It was a gloriously sunny day with a bright blue cloudless sky and one step in the garden instantly transports you to a tropical forest.
All you can hear are the birds chirping high up in the trees and water trickling from the fountains. Stroll under the tall elegant trees, along the perfectly manicured lawns and admire the beautiful roses, it is simply breathtaking.
When you reach the end of the stunning garden you will find two more private suites, perfectly discreet and ideal for honeymooners. There is also entry to the hotels own private dock. From here, there is a private water taxi that leaves every 30 minutes and takes you straight to St. Mark’s Square and to and from Murano Island, compliments of the hotel.
Take a moment to take in the spectacular view, truly an experience like no other. The view alone will stay with you forever, the peacefulness of the water and the glittery lights of the city that twinkle before you at dusk, it is the perfect postcard in real life.
