Raised in an isolated village in Israel, Kukula heavily relied on her vivid imagination for entertainment. She became fascinated by princesses and World War II horror stories from her neighbours, many of them Holocaust survivors.
The juxtaposition of real-life horror and whimsicality is the central theme of her paintings, which have garnered critical acclaim from Kate Moss, Rihanna and iconic fashion photographer, Nick Knight.
