Canary Wharf has long shed its image as a purely nine-to-five financial hub, evolving into one of London’s most vibrant destinations after dark. Among the restaurants and bars continuing to shape this new side of the neighbourhood is Songbird, a stylish all-day dining venue that brings together seasonal British cuisine and thoughtful design.
Originally launched late last year, exclusively for theatre-goers, Songbird has recently opened its doors to all, inviting diners to experience its gorgeous take on British cuisine. From mid-day business meetings to cocktails after the curtain falls, the restaurant is designed to carry you effortlessly from one occasion to the next.
Rooted in the finest produce from the British Isles, the food strikes a delicate balance between cosy comfort and decadent indulgence. The menu kicks off with snacks, such as the Golden Crumpets topped with caviar; buttery, crisp Tempura Cod paired with confit garlic aioli, and juicy Giant Red Prawns tossed in confit garlic butter, sat on toasted focaccia. There is a freshness to the seafood that feels particularly notable, with Songbird sourcing from merchants at nearby Billingsgate Market, just minutes away.

For the main: Opt for the tender roasted Roast Chicken, served with leeks, king oyster mushrooms and a rich miso sauce, accompanied by a side of creamy mash. Dessert is where Songbird leans fully into its playful side. The interactive, build-your-own sundae arrives inside a birdcage, surrounded by an abundant selection of toppings and sauces. An excellent, nostalgic treat that pays homage to the restaurant’s name.
Alternatively, for a more swift lunch break, Songbird offers the gourmet lunchtime options of a 5oz dry-aged rump Steak Sandwich, crispy Schnitzel Sandwich, and an indulgent Lobster Roll.
At the literal and figurative heart of the restaurant sits a dramatic circular bar serving drinks that embrace Songbird’s theatrical spirit. The signature Songbird cocktail is light and floral, combining gin, elderflower cordial and lemon bitters, while the Smoked Old Fashioned arrives with considerably more drama, unveiled from beneath an aroma-filled glass cloche.

The setting is every bit as considered. Nature-inspired interiors, designed by Rachel Gowridge, whose portfolio includes The Hoxton and Gleneagles Hotel, the space balances Canary Wharf’s industrial architecture with a softer, more decadent sensibility. Exposed pipes and soaring ceilings provide the framework, while forest greens, warm oranges, saturated reds and abstract patterns introduce a rich, nature-inspired palette. Layered textures and considered details keep the room feeling glamorous without becoming overly polished.
For more intimate affair, The Goldcrest Room offers a semi-private dining hideaway tucked beneath a striking Sputnik chandelier. Its muted base palette is punctuated by lacquered red accents and geometric carpet, creating a restrained retro feel, while floor-to-ceiling windows frame sweeping waterfront views towards the O2.
With its playful spirit, polished setting and food made for lingering over, Songbird is a new Canary Wharf address well worth adding to the list.
