Ibiza, the third largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands, might be most renowned as the party destination for the summer, but it is also one of the best islands to unwind, relax and reset.
Sol Beach House is the perfect place to do exactly that. Located on the beachfront near Santa Eulalia Bay, spend your mornings doing yoga by the sea, your afternoons by the pool or a midnight swim to live music.
It was a beautiful Mediterranean summers day, the blanket of sky was edged with silver and the sun shone brightly, as we pulled up outside the large, modern beach house. The wooden wall at the front was laced with pots of flowers, vintage white cruiser bicycles with wicker baskets filled with flowers at the front stood proudly, giving the property a rustic feel.
The hotel interior was also a perfect balance of contemporary and rustic decor with several lampshades cascading down at different lengths in the lobby, as well as a birdcage lampshade highlighting the piano. The floor-to-ceiling windows allowed natural light to flood in from the back of the room, with a glorious view of the sea and palm trees inviting you back outside.
The master suite was spectacular. Wonderfully spacious and modern with splashes of colour provided by Desigual Living’s signature tie-dye and paisley patterns. Having two three-piece bathrooms was a great luxury, one with a rainfall shower and one with a deep sumptuous bathtub. The biggest highlight was undoubtedly the private terrace offering incredible views of the sparkling azure waters the Mediterranean is known for.
There’s no better way to start the day than taking advantage of the exercise bike on the terrace, especially whilst watching the glorious Ibizan sunrise. Afterwards, stretch it out on the yoga mat provided in the room, or join one of the morning yoga sessions.
Hiking up the cliff nearby was another great way to enjoy the sunrise. If like me, you’re not an early riser, make the exception this once. I promise you will not regret it. The cloudless sky was a hazy lavender colour as the break of day came, rods of golden light rebounded off the dreamy sea. As I looked over, the sun was a flaming wheel of saffron-orange blazing bright in the sky.
A sublimity of Sol Beach House is their Campervan Suite. Guests can experience a night in their vintage VW Campervan, reminiscent of Scooby Doo’s hippy chic ‘Mystery Machine’. The hotel sets the scene beautifully at night, with fairy lights illuminating the campervan. Blankets and deck chairs are laid out, making it the perfect setting to cosy up and enjoy the glittering stars lighting up the night sky.
We enjoyed the campervan in the day with a delightful picnic spread featuring Desigual’s brightly coloured blanket and cushions, facing the magnificent blue water. Earlier, we received a personal cooking class with doctor, blogger and author of The Food Medic, Hazel Wallace. We created an alternative version of her ‘Rice paper chicken rolls with peanut butter dipping sauce’, which we relished with good conversations whilst taking in our surroundings.
Sol Beach House Ibiza has two outdoor pools, both overlooking the sea and luscious green surroundings. Lazing on one of the comfortable day beds by the pool whilst people watching, was the most idyllic way to spend the afternoon. Guests at the hotel were young and beautiful with sun-stained bodies – you can relax at the thought of children running around, as the hotel has an over-16 policy.
A highlight was undoubtedly the outdoor massage held on the wooden marquee facing the sea. It was so relaxing as Delilah kneaded all the knots in my body away, and with nothing but the sound of the waves, I was in paradise.
The hotel prides themselves on their well-living mantra and this is evident in both of their restaurants, with gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options.
