This winter, Shangri-La The Shard, London will whisk guests away to the Austrian Alps in spectacular style as the hotel transforms into an apres-ski wonderland imagined by Feldbach-born General Manager, Kurt Macher.
Kurt revealed, “Being Austrian, I have very fond childhood memories of visiting ski resorts, warm cosy ski lodges and the hearty Austrian dishes of the mountains. I wanted to bring these memories to life in London, by transforming our hotel in the clouds into an authentic Austrian mountain chalet and giving our guests a sense of escapism, especially when many of us missed the ski season last year.”
Meanwhile, GŎNG London’s highest bar will find a magical Alpine gingerbread village, ski gondola and wood panelling evoking a touch of mountain chic. In a nod to the Shard’s iconic design, this year Shangri-La The Shard, London will unveil an architecture inspired Christmas tree made from sustainable, re-usable materials by local contemporary architect Charles Holland.
Kurt revealed, “Guests can expect to feel transported to the Austrian Alps, with a sense of glamour and style evoking the luxe ski resorts of Austria, accompanied by delicious Austrian-inspired food – from our Alpine Afternoon Tea which features Austrian pastries like Sachertorte and Black Forest Gateau, to Alpine specialities like Nuernberger sausage rolls, chicken Schnitzel and Glühwein in our cosy outdoor ski chalets at Hütte 31.”
He added, “Guests will also be able to take a taste of apres-ski at the Shangri-La home with them, or as a gift for loved ones, as Mama Macher’s Austrian cookies and winter spiced jam inspired by my mother’s authentic recipes will be available to purchase at the hotel.”
For guests choosing to celebrate Christmas Day in the sky, a special, decadent lunch and dinner menu will be served in TĪNG, with traditional favourites such as Norfolk turkey or wagyu rib-eye steak paired with fine
wines, and desserts including Christmas pudding with brandy anglaise or mandarin cremeaux with pistachio ‘ice cream’.
Bar 31 transforms into Hütte 31 Bar 31 will undergo an Alpine re-brand as it launches Hütte 31, one of London’s most authentic outdoor chalet drinking and dining experiences this festive season.
Visitors will cosy up in wooden chalets with soft blankets and guaranteed ‘snow’ as an ideal wintry hideaway to enjoy traditional Austrian delicacies, such as Nuernberger Sausage Rolls alongside Botanist gin cocktails, hot toddies and boozy hot chocolate.
