Sale e Pepe has been a family favourite since 1974, renowned for its classic Italian dishes with a modern twist. It is situated just a stone’s throw from Harrods, it’s the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of Knightsbridge.
Since it opened its doors in 1974 on Pavilion Road, Sale e Pepe has been a cornerstone of the city’s dining scene. Its exceptional service and authentic cuisine have long made it a favorite among the elite, attracting a glittering clientele of politicians, film stars, fashion icons, and royalty. Over the years, the restaurant has become synonymous with the style and sophistication of Italy, offering a taste of La Dolce Vita in London.
Sale e Pepe is entering a luxurious new chapter with an exquisite redesign, heralding its Renaissance era. Renowned for their opulent touch, Hamilford Design will lead the creative refurbishment, drawing inspiration from classic Italian aesthetics to craft an elegant and inviting ambiance.
The menu is mouth-watering, featuring many reimagined classic dishes we were eager to try. For starters, we ordered three delicious dishes to share. The Gamberi Scottati, a selection of king prawns marinated in lemon juice from the Amalfi coast with a dash of olive oil, transported me back to Amalfi with the first bite. We also enjoyed the grilled octopus seasoned with paprika and Vitello Tonnato, sliced veal and tuna tartar in a creamy sauce.
The mains were unforgettable, and we ordered three favorites to share at the table. First up was the Linguine All’Aragosta, a dish I always order if it’s on the menu. This beautiful plate of linguine soaked in butter, garlic, and lemon with lobster and fresh tomato was delightfully fresh and bursting with flavor.
To complement the linguine, we ordered the grilled veal chop and prime rib-eye. The veal was unbelievably tender and flavorful, showcasing its premium quality. I’ve never tasted meat like it. The rib-eye, perfectly cooked medium-rare, was juicy and full of flavour.
During our meal, we noticed a beautiful homemade tiramisu being served. Presented in an oval dish with classic blue Italian-style print, it was impossible to resist. We ordered it for dessert, and it did not disappoint. This comforting sweet delight was the perfect end to a wonderful evening out in town that still felt like home.
Sale e Pepe promises diners to be the perfect fusion of tradition and sophistication, honouring authentic Italian hospitality while ushering guests into a new era of timeless elegance—the true essence of la dolce vita.
