Madrid is fast becoming one of Spain’s most popular tourist destinations. The city’s rich culture, beautiful historical buildings, buzzing food markets and bustling nightlife have allowed the capital to step out of Barcelona’s shadow and into the spotlight. With a growing numbers of visitors travelling to the city in order to sample its many delights, Madrid has been calling out for a fresh, contemporary hotel for people to hang their proverbial hat – enter Ocean Drive, the OD group’s latest venture.
Situated in Plaza de Isabel II, right in front of the Opera Palace, the boutique-style hotel ensures that its guests are at the very heart of the city. The hotel itself boasts a cool, contemporary aesthetic thanks to its Mediterranean colour palette, sleek design and elegant architecture. Created by the architectural studio of Victor Rahola and interior designer Mayte Matutes – Ocean Drive Madrid is also complemented by sustainable technology that draws on bioclimatic measures to achieve the maximum reduction in energy demand.
The bright and airy feel of the lobby is carried into every corner of the place and sets a sophisticated tone early doors. Each of the 72 rooms continues the simple and modern design style, ranging from a generously-sized Superior Room offering a king-sized bed and neighbourhood views, to a Corner Deluxe Suite presenting its very own library and unrivalled views over the city that can be enjoyed from the 60sqm private terrace. Some rooms come equipped with notable extras such as a 2L beer shooter, a vinyl record player and a pillow menu.
The hotel’s restaurant, Mar Mía, defines itself as a ‘chic, urban beach bar’. This exciting new eatery combines the expertise of Chef Rafa Zafra, who controls the Mediterranean grills, and Luís Rodríguez, who oversees the all-important rice dishes. The menu serves the best of Spanish food – offering a selection of delicious tapas, different rice dishes, and grilled fish and meats. Guests can choose to indulge in Mar Mía’s delights in the chic indoor dining room, or alternatively they can choose to sit in the enclosed terrace – a foliage-filled space that feels like a little oasis tucked away in the middle of the capital.
The pièce de résistance of the hotel has got to be the OD Sky Bar. An elevator whisks you all the way to the top floor, where the doors open out onto the most spectacular view across Madrid. Head up to the roof at night with a cocktail in hand to soak up the city lights whilst taking a dip in the stunning swimming pool. If you’re more of a sunriser, the Sky Bar also makes for the perfect spot to sip on that first morning coffee whilst planning the rest of the day’s activities.
Whether it’s your first time in Madrid or your tenth visit to this vibrant city, Ocean Drive Hotel promises to ensure your stay is just as memorable as the capital itself.
Rooms start from €180 to €650 per night depending on room type and season.
