Heliot Steak House at The Hippodrome

Above the flicker of cards and roulette wheels, Heliot Steak House watches over Piccadilly Circus’s Hippodrome. This elevation of the stakes pays tribute to Claire Heliot, the fearless performer who once strode onto the Hippodrome stage to feed raw meat to lions – a feat that the steakhouse dares match. The hungry lions overlooking the action of the casino wait patiently for their meat to arrive – just as Claire’s 14 cats did originally, though nowadays you get a cocktail.

From the moment you arrive, the energy of the casino below creates a buzz that’s somewhat intimidating, but The Heliot offers something altogether more sophisticated. Expert bartenders shake up classics like the crisp Pisco Sour or the Spicy Mezcal Margarita, a sign of appreciation for the classics. Executive Chef Ioannis Grammenos oversees a menu that masterfully balances tradition and innovation, with each plate prepared with the care of a showman keen to impress.

The meal begins with a visual and flavour feast. The Sea Bass Ceviche, served under a cloud of dry ice, arrives like a magician’s trick, revealing its tender fish soaked in tiger milk and ginger. For something heartier, the Grilled Octopus—paired with buttery new potatoes sat on a bed of fava beans—shows off Grammenos Greek roots.

At the centre of it all, though – the meat. The Hereford Fillet Chateaubriand melts away with each bite, taken from a sizzling hot plate, while the Irish Wexford Tomahawk commands attention with its impressive size and deep marbling. Classic accompaniments, like velvety Mac & Cheese or earthy forest mushrooms and favourite toppings like chimichurri add variety and customisation to a straightforward menu. With meats from across the globe including Wagyu and USDA prime steaks, the combination of quality meats with Greek staples offers familiar comforts with refined twists.

In every corner of Heliot Steak House, there’s a touch of drama—whether it’s the view over the bustling Hippodrome or the extravagant dishes that land in front of you. Much like Claire Heliot’s legendary performances, this is an experience designed to be remembered. From the bold flavours to the carefully crafted cocktails, dining here feels like stepping into a well-orchestrated show, where every detail works together to create an unforgettable night.
