Since its Mayfair debut earlier this year, Gaia has quickly become a culinary hotspot in London, earning rave reviews and a loyal following. This new Greek restaurant sits amongst Mayfair’s finest, just off the corner of Green Park, neighbouring the likes of Hide and Novikov.
Translating to “Earth” and revered as the mother of all life, ‘GAIA’ brings this essence to all their creations — where every sip and bite grants a celebration of nature’s abundance.
An Ode to Grecian Simplicity
Gaia’s interiors are a study in understated sophistication. Bathed in pale neutrals and natural light, the space is adorned with bespoke globe pendant lights, arched ceilings, and Grecian-inspired accents of pottery and Hellenistic sculptures. The design strikes a balance between clean lines and timeless aesthetics, making every visit feel like stepping into a contemporary Mediterranean haven.
The darker sides
Beyond its main dining area, Gaia unveils two hidden gems: an upstairs bar and the exclusive NYX private members’ club below. The bar exudes sultry elegance with dim lighting, deep turquoise and auburn velvet seating, and cascading pink blossom vines. Gold accents and mirrored surfaces add a luxurious touch, while glass showcases display bottles of rare vintage reserves.
A Taste of Greece
Serving a reduced ‘Ouzo Mezedes’ menu, the bar features highlights from Gaia’s full dining experience, along with appetising small plates.
Sea Bream Carpaccio is a standout dish, served whole and accompanied by salt,
lemon, and three distinct dashi dressings:
Lemon (delicate and mild), Mandarin (sweet with a subtle kick), and Truffle (rich and bold, best saved for last). Other must-tries include flavourful Lobster Linguine and tender, juicy Lamb Cutlets, paired with warm pita, tzatziki and decadent truffle-topped homemade fries.
For more traditional and homely dishes, the Dolmadakia (stuffed vine leaves), Prawn Saganaki and Moussaka are excellent choices.
Cocktails Rooted in Greek Philosophy
Gaia’s cocktail menu reflects its ardent connection to nature, split into three main elements:
- The Sun: light, vibrant, and awakening.
- The Mountain: rich, earthy, and mythic.
- The Sea: refreshing and tranquil.
Signature creations (from the Legacy section) include the fruity Santorini Spritz, blending vodka, lychee, hibiscus puree, rose water, and Prosecco. Whilst from the Mountain element there is an aromatic Pithari, a tequila-based cocktail with peach, cinnamon, and pistachio, clarified with coconut water.
The Perfect Setting
Whether you’re seeking a leisurely lunch or a night of cocktails and sophistication, Gaia offers an unforgettable journey through Greek flavours and style.
For group dining or leisurely lunches, the ground-floor restaurant provides an airy, bright space of modern elegance. However, if you’re after a brief or more intimate experience, the bar is the place to be.
