Chotto Matte Soho strikes the perfect balance between lively energy and cosy intimacy. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was buzzing yet inviting, with a stylish setting that made for a relaxed yet elevated dining experience.
We began with a selection of starters that showcased the bold flavors of Nikkei cuisine. The miso soup was a comforting start, light yet deeply flavorful, with tofu, spring onion, and wakame adding delicate textures. The padrón peppers followed, blistered to perfection with a subtle sweetness that paired beautifully with the rich den miso. The yellowtail sashimi was a standout, silky and fresh, elevated by the bright citrus notes of yuzu truffle soy and the gentle heat of jalapeño. The Nikkei gyoza offered a delightful contrast, with a crisp exterior giving way to a succulent pork and prawn filling, enhanced by the velvety yuzu sweet potato purée and a tangy red pepper ponzu. The Sato maki delivered a satisfying combination of sea bass, salmon tartare, and romano pepper, all wrapped together with Chotto soy for a well-balanced bite. The crispy squid tempura was another highlight, perfectly fried with a light, golden coating and just the right amount of spice from the KZ seasoning and red chilli, complemented by a smoky yellow anticucho emulsion.
Moving on to the mains, the asado de tira was a showstopper, with slow-cooked beef short rib that melted effortlessly, served over a creamy purple potato purée and finished with a glossy teriyaki jus. The pollo anticucho was equally delicious, the chicken tender and well-seasoned, paired with a vibrant coriander causa that added a fresh contrast. Alongside, the sesame soy broccoli brought a touch of heat with red chilli and coriander, while the steamed white rice provided a simple yet essential balance to the rich, flavourful dishes.
To finish, the kuro goma ice cream was the perfect end to the meal. The deep, nutty richness of black sesame was complemented by the crunch of toasted almonds and the indulgence of a silky chocolate sauce, creating a beautifully balanced dessert that lingered on the palate.
Chotto Matte Soho delivers not only in flavor but in atmosphere, making it an excellent spot for those looking to explore the bold and beautifully crafted world of Nikkei cuisine. The combination of exciting flavours, stylish surroundings, and a vibrant yet comfortable setting makes for a dining experience worth returning to.
