Situated in a row of white stucco-fronted mansions that are decorated as intricately as icing on a wedding cake is The Kensington Hotel. At its heart is Town House, an intimate restaurant serving quintessentially British cuisine.
Although the location is undeniably prestigious, Town House has the ambiance of a home away from home, where hearty comfort food and a cosy atmosphere are paramount.
Start with homemade sourdough, soda and Guinness brown bread and smoked almonds. Next, try the delicious San Daniele ham with sweet pear,
gorgonzola and hazelnuts and Tiger Prawns with Harissa aioli and lime.
For the main course, opt for succulent Heritage Rib Eye Steak (8oz) with a peppercorn sauce, accompanied by creamy mashed potatoes and grilled winter squash with salsa verde.
The whole Dover Sole is also spectacular, served on or off the bone, grilled or meunière. Team it with hand-cut chips and spinach which can be served creamed, buttered or slicked with olive oil.
For dessert, try the festive Christmas spiced chocolate fondant with brandy ice cream, which goes perfectly with the 10-year-old Tawny Port, Quinta da Silveira, Douro, Portugal.
The Cru Virunga chocolate & clementine bombe is also delicious with a glass of Riesling Icewine, Stratus Vineyards 2016 Niagara, Canada.
The service is wonderful, we were served by Benjamin Buckley, the F&B Manager at The Kensington. He was friendly and attentive, with a vast knowledge of the menu and offered wonderful recommendations.
Town House has been one of our favourite eateries in London for a while and with its new festive offerings, you’ll find us at our favourite table with a brandy in hand. So, if you are looking for glorious British cuisine and wonderful service, look no further than Town House.
