To all you whisky lovers out there and newbies too, The Glenlivet celebrated being 200 years old this year and to commemorate this milestone the brand introduced the ‘Eternal Collection’ a series of limited edition whiskys paying homage to the distinguished heritage that embraces its forward thinking ethos.
The remarkable journey began in 1824 when George Smith established the distillery in the heart of Speyside, Scotland this milestone not only highlights the rich history of Glenlivet but also showcases its enduring commitment to quality and innovation in whisky making.
The first bottle launched is its rarest and oldest 55 year old single malt. Just 100 limited edition bottles have been produced making it not just a drink but a coveted piece of history. Immerse yourself in this collaboration with the innovative architect Michael Hansmeyer. The Eternal Collection serves as a fitting tribute to The Glenlivet’s legacy and its promise for the future inviting both longtime fans and newcomers to explore the depth and richness of all its offerings. The whisky is encased within a strikingly beautiful sculpture that is a tribute to the rugged Scottish landscape surrounding the distillery and captures the essence and flow of the River Livet in the Spey Valley.
The 55 year old is an exceptionally rare and prestigious release from the distillery reflecting the craftsmanship and heritage of The Glenlivet. This whisky typically showcases complex flavours developed over its extensive 55 year ageing including rich notes of dark chocolate, poached pears, dried fruit spices, Seville oranges and oak. I was extremely lucky enough to sip this rare whisky and the balance of sweetness and spice was delightful, each sip was a journey through time reflecting the craftsmanship and heritage of the Glenlivet name.
Also released as part of the bicentury celebrations The Glenlivet has also partnered up with Sothebys to auction a one off 55-year-old Single malt with its own unique Decanter and sculpture by Michael Hansmeyer which was created exclusively for Sotheby’s collectors. This is available exclusively at auction from October 22 to November 5 2024, with all proceeds benefitting the National Trust for Scotland, focused on preserving and promoting Scotland’s natural and cultural heritage.
