Royal Salute is looking to the Middle East for the eighth chapter of its celebrated Polo Collection, unveiling the new Royal Salute 21 Year Old Desert Jewel Polo Edition – a richly layered Scotch whisky inspired by the striking contrasts of Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Created as a tribute to two of the world’s most dynamic polo destinations, the limited-edition release captures a region where ancient desert landscapes sit alongside extraordinary modern architecture, centuries-old traditions meet uncompromising ambition and some of the world’s most glamorous sporting events unfold beneath cloudless skies.
At its heart is a bespoke 21-year-old blended Scotch whisky created by Royal Salute Master Blender Emeritus Sandy Hyslop and fully finished in Pedro Ximénez Sherry Casks. The result is an opulent, deeply aromatic expression designed to reflect the richness, warmth and complexity of its Middle Eastern inspiration.
A Whisky Inspired by the Middle East
The Desert Jewel Polo Edition continues Royal Salute’s tradition of using its Polo Collection to celebrate destinations that have become synonymous with the sport.
For this edition, attention turns to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, where polo has become an increasingly prominent part of the luxury sporting calendar.
Hyslop approached the whisky with the region’s contrasts in mind. Pedro Ximénez Sherry Casks provide the defining character, adding layers of fruit, spice and sweetness to the mature blend.
“For the eighth edition of our Polo Collection, I wanted to create a blend as captivating and multi-layered as the desert cities that inspired it,” he explains.
“Fully finishing this 21 year old whisky in Pedro Ximénez Sherry Casks was like uncovering a hidden jewel – the casks impart a bold, richly spiced character, making every sip a journey from the bustle of the souks to the shimmer of the skyline.”
It is an evocative description of a whisky intended to move between richness and brightness rather than simply leaning into sweetness.
What Does the Royal Salute Desert Jewel Taste Like?
The nose begins with sweet cranberries, glazed cherries and stewed apples, followed by the comforting richness of cinnamon buns and almond praline.
Freshly grated nutmeg and cardamom introduce a more aromatic edge before the palate moves into considerably more opulent territory.
Mango and blood orange arrive alongside sticky dates, treacle tart and marzipan, before ginger, pink peppercorn and sweet oak spice bring warmth and structure.
The finish is characteristically smooth and velvety, with lingering ginger adding a final flash of spice.
It is a flavour profile clearly designed around generosity: ripe fruit, pâtisserie-like sweetness and aromatic spice layered over the depth expected from a 21-year-old Royal Salute blend.
A Turquoise Flagon Inspired by Desert and Sea
As with previous releases from Royal Salute, the presentation is almost as considered as the liquid itself.
The 21 Year Old Desert Jewel Polo Edition is housed in a striking turquoise flagon, its colour inspired by the clear waters that provide a vivid contrast to the desert landscapes surrounding the cities.
The accompanying gift box continues the story through illustrations of sweeping sand dunes, colourful souks and futuristic skyscrapers.
Together they evoke the juxtaposition at the centre of the concept: old and new, desert and city, tradition and reinvention.
For collectors of Royal Salute’s Polo Collection, it makes this eighth edition immediately distinctive.

Polo in Dubai and Abu Dhabi
The Middle East has become an increasingly natural setting for international polo, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi combining world-class facilities, an established equestrian culture and an audience closely connected to luxury sport.
Royal Salute World Polo Ambassador Malcolm Borwick describes the region as one of the most exciting destinations in which to play.
“Polo is flourishing across the Middle East, and Dubai and Abu Dhabi have become one of the most exciting places in the world to play,” he says.
“There’s a magnetic energy here – the meeting of centuries-old tradition and boundless ambition mirrors everything I love about this sport.”
That intersection of history and modernity is woven throughout the new edition, from its flavour profile to its design.
The Eighth Chapter of the Royal Salute Polo Collection
Royal Salute’s relationship with polo has become an important part of the brand’s modern identity, allowing it to connect the ceremony and heritage of aged Scotch whisky with one of the world’s most glamorous sports.
The Desert Jewel Polo Edition expands that story into the Middle East while remaining rooted in the philosophy that has defined Royal Salute since its creation in 1953.
The house famously begins its range at 21 years old, a reference to the 21-gun salute that accompanied the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
More than seven decades later, Royal Salute continues to explore that heritage through increasingly creative limited editions, collaborations and interpretations of its signature aged whisky.
The new Desert Jewel release feels particularly suited to that approach: traditional Scotch whisky craftsmanship meeting the theatricality and ambition of a contemporary Middle Eastern luxury destination.
The Royal Salute 21 Year Old Desert Jewel Polo Edition will make its exclusive debut in Taiwan on October 20, 2026, before rolling out globally through selected specialist retailers from October 2026 in limited quantities, with a recommended retail price starting from $190.
For collectors, whisky enthusiasts and followers of the Royal Salute Polo Collection, it is a striking new chapter – one shaped by shimmering skylines, desert heat and a whisky every bit as richly layered as the cities that inspired it.
