Madrid has a new address for serious watchmaking. Richard Mille has opened the doors to its first standalone boutique in Spain, taking over a prominent corner on Calle José Ortega y Gasset in the heart of the capital’s Milla de Oro. Spread across 441 square metres, the new space feels less like a traditional boutique and more like a private members’ club designed for people who happen to love extraordinary watches.
It is a significant moment for the brand. Spain has been woven into the Richard Mille story since its earliest years, with some of its first important collectors and commercial partners based across the country. Now, after more than a decade of searching for the right location, the marque finally has a permanent home in Madrid.
Peter Harrison, CEO of Richard Mille EMEA, describes the new boutique as “a true Richard Mille home in the city” — somewhere clients can discover the watches, meet the specialists and, crucially, simply spend time. That final point is key. This is not a space designed around quick transactions.
From the street, the boutique is deliberately discreet, framed by black windows and crisp white awnings. Step inside, however, and the architecture immediately opens up. A dramatic foyer rises more than four metres, while the interiors unfold across split levels connected by a circular glass lift and sculptural staircase.
The upper floor is dedicated to the world of watchmaking. Library-style joinery creates intimate lounges around the main sales area, while carefully placed showcases make the most of Madrid’s natural light.
At the centre is something particularly special: an on-site watchmaker’s room alongside a dedicated polishing room. Five counter seats give clients a front-row view of the technical craftsmanship behind Richard Mille’s famously complex creations. It brings the usually hidden world of haute horlogerie directly into the boutique.
But downstairs is where Madrid really starts to come through. The lower level has been conceived entirely around hospitality, with private lounges, a dining room, bar, wine cellar and humidor creating the atmosphere of an elegant private residence. There is even a bespoke Richard Mille ping-pong table, because restraint has never really been the point.
A concealed door built seamlessly into the joinery reveals an additional private lounge. The interiors subtly blend the house codes of Richard Mille with the spirit of Spain. Warm timber, bronze and textured Ecoclay finishes sit alongside locally inspired tiles, softly illuminated arches and a mix of coffered and beamed ceilings. Rather than leaning on obvious Spanish motifs, the design captures Madrid through mood: warm, elegant, sophisticated and sociable.
Locally sourced furniture and decorative details reinforce that sense of place, while the overall palette remains polished and quietly luxurious.
The boutique’s arrival also carries a personal connection to Spain through Rafael Nadal, whose longstanding partnership with Richard Mille has become one of the most recognisable relationships in modern watchmaking. Nadal had reportedly encouraged the brand for years to establish a permanent presence in Madrid, making the opening feel like a natural next chapter.
For Richard Mille, retail has increasingly become about creating immersive environments rather than conventional stores, and Madrid may be one of the clearest expressions of that philosophy yet.
This is a place where clients can discover a watch, talk to the people who understand every technical detail, have a drink, sit down for dinner and remain within the Richard Mille universe long after the watch cabinet has closed.
Open Monday to Saturday from 11am to 7pm, the new Madrid boutique brings together craftsmanship, architecture and hospitality under one roof.
