“Outsider Artist represents not only me but also everyone who loves fashion and art,” says Su Li, the founder of Outsider Artist. “This brand stems from my deep passion for fashion and art, as well as my collaborations with designers from around the world. I’ve always had an immense love for fashion, but I’ve often been cautious, hesitant to claim that I truly understand fashion or art. Unlike those born into artistic families or formally trained in fashion design, I consider myself an ‘outsider,’ seemingly unqualified to promote myself in this field.
However, there’s a saying that ‘art comes from life,’ and I believe fashion is no different. Every design I contribute is an expression of my inner world, just as a painter uses a brush to capture what they see and feel. Each of us is unique, and so are our emotions—vivid and diverse. How wonderful that is! In my view, as long as you’re willing to fully immerse yourself in experiencing a piece of art or design, the emotions evoked by your own life experiences signify your understanding of art. I deeply admire those who take a moment to pause and genuinely appreciate the beauty of art and life. To me, they are the true artists of their own lives.”
