The Curling Club Returns to London

This holiday season, London’s favourite winter entertainment, The Curling Club, will make its much anticipated return. Inviting curling enthusiasts and festive party goers, it promises the ultimate winter wonderland experience.

Gliding into two iconic locations, The Curling Club makes its glistening return to London and will bring festivities to the Southbank Centre from 1st November – 3rd January 2023 and The Shack Takeover in Twickenham, from 30th November – 24th December 2022.

Boasting the most dashing après-ski nostalgia, the glistening pistes of the Alps will now lie upon London’s River Thames at the Southbank Centre and at The Shack Takeover, adjacent to the renowned Shack, in Twickenham – two ideal locations for the party season. Based on the

Winter Olympic sport of Curling, The Curling Club’s ambassador and four time Olympic champion Eve Muirhead OBE, will also be returning. Having captained Team GB to gold glory in February this year, now guests can emulate this by gliding stones down a fit-for-purpose sheet, providing an authentic experience without the need for ice, or specialist footwear.

A headline feature enticing people to this year’s legendary Winter Festival at the Southbank Centre, The Curling Club will allow strollers beneath the twinkling lights alongside the River Thames to stop and embrace competitive socialising in its most magical form. Contributing to

this wonderland spectacular will be live entertainment, music, alpine inspired street food and cocktails galore to ensure seasonal cheer inside and outside the venue.

There will be a total of five curling sheets, allowing couples and groups of up to ten per sheet to enjoy this quintessential game. You and your guests are invited to attend every day from 11am to 11pm.

The second location for the adored pop-up is ‘The Shack Takeover’ in Twickenham, which has a 300 person capacity and three curling sheets for the taking.

Available Wednesday to Sunday and from 11am to 11 or 12pm – dependent on the day – groups of all sizes and ages can also enjoy a feast of wintery street food and drink, complete with live entertainment and music.

Eve Muirhead OBE commented on the return of the Curling Club, “The Curling Club is the perfect opportunity to experience the intense and suspenseful sport that is curling. Combining the recent & continued success of Team GB’s curling achievements and the popularity of last

year’s spectaculars, it’s a hugely exciting way to celebrate the festive season – and I am so proud to be part of it again. I can’t wait to meet everyone at both of these fantastic venues.”

David Lawlor, CEO at The Curling Club, also commented on the new location news, “After last year’s extravagant pop up in the heart of the City I’m very excited for this year, because the Southbank Centre is the ideal place for making curling accessible to all this winter.

“The spring board of British Olympic Gold, thanks to an outstanding performance from Eve and team GB, means all people, young and old can enjoy curling the night away like Olympic sporting heroes. Will you be in the rings or on the button at the Southbank Centre this November and December?”

Lucy Price, Commercial Operations Manager at the Southbank Centre, added: “We’re really excited to see curling come to the Southbank Centre to sit alongside our artistic programme and Winter markets this year. It is a new innovative use of our space, helping us to further diversify the activities on offer, and we can’t wait to give it a go!”

The Curling Club will be at the Southbank Centre, London from 1st November 2022 until 3rd January 2023, and at The Shack in Twickenham from 30th November 2022 until 24th December 2022.
