Cassia is a Hertfordshire-based Economics and Business student and model with Body London.
We caught up with Cassia to find out about her life in isolation…
What does isolation look like where you live? How has your local community been affected?
When I am not studying in Nottingham, I live with my family on the borders of North London and Hertfordshire.
The beautiful landscapes and breathtaking views make it a pleasure to go for walks. However, it is devastating to see some of my favourite local shops and restaurants closed, which makes it feel a little sad and eerie.
Can you talk us through your daily routine in isolation?
I would like to say that I wake up at 6am and workout, however the reality is it is normally nearer 10am unless I have a shoot or a meeting. I usually start my morning with an online yoga class and then proceed with my studying.
There have been various stages within these lockdowns where I wanted to do something a little more creative. I have been through phases of baking (realised I’ll never make The Great British Bake Off), making candles, trying to learn to play the electronic keyboard I received on my 10th birthday… all of which have been a disaster.
I have found that for me it is important to keep myself entertained in these tough times. On a positive note, I have significantly improved my cooking skills and my family seem quite impressed!
What are the biggest impacts the lockdown has had on your life?
I am sure many can relate, the biggest impact is missing my friends and family. I miss the fun and laughter of university life and cannot believe it has almost been a year since I’ve been home.
It has been tough practically teaching myself a degree but above all, I have learnt that I am capable of so much more than I thought. The highlight of my year was most definitely when I was signed to Body London.
What has been a silver lining from being in isolation? Any special memories?
Spending quality time with my family which I may have not been able to do if I was still at university in Nottingham. Fortunately, we get on well and most days we are in stitches of laughter over something or other.
A special memory was my 20th birthday recently, although I spent it in isolation, I had numerous surprises from family and friends, making it one of the most memorable.
What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learnt during this time?
I absolutely love this quote which sums it up perfectly for me:
‘Today is a reminder that life is too damn short. So, love a little deeper. Hug a little tighter, and never pass up the chance to say, ‘I love you’ to those you love because tomorrow is never promised.’
We are all stronger and braver than we think and to anyone who may be struggling, you are not alone so please reach out to a friend, family member, helpline, or even me!
What are your self-care tips at home?
Self-care is so important as I believe it encourages you to maintain a healthy relationship with yourself. Some self-care for me may include finding half an hour of peace which is tricky in my crazy house! Taking a break from social media every now and then to go outside and get some fresh air. Oh, and the odd porn star martini helps!
Where do you want to travel to when the restrictions are lifted?
I absolutely love to travel, it is such a beautiful and exciting way to explore new places, cultures, and cuisines. It’s definitely one of the things I miss doing the most. The Maldives would be a lovely place to start!
Transport yourself to December 2021, what would you like to have achieved this year?
Hopefully, I will have passed my 2nd year university exams. I’m also so excited to see where my modelling with Body London takes me.
Dear 2021… please be kind.
